“Tender, love and care” is needed for St Michaels Villas, an elected member of Clare County Council has affirmed.

A recent inspection by Ennis Municipal District staff found that the existing condition of roads and footpaths at St Michaels Villas “did not warrant their prioritisation for inclusion in this year’s Schedule of Municipal District Works,” senior executive engineer Eamon O’Dea outlined.

Continued focus on the area is needed, Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) believed. “It is apparent that the engineers don’t think the condition of the roads and footpaths not deemed necessary for inclusion on Schedule of Municipal District Works, that is their professional opinion. The residents feel it is being neglected,” she stated.

Cllr Mark Nestor (FF) informed the April meeting of the Ennis MD that residents have also voiced their worries relating to the footpaths with him.

Discussions over a decade ago on the Ennis Town Council underlined the need to have “a clear focus” on the area, Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) recalled. He was of the view drawings and costings for future plans had been done by the Town Council.

“This area needs our tender love and care, it has been ignored,” Colleran Molloy commented. She committed to raising the matter with Clare County Council executive engineer John Gannon at a future meeting.
