Buttsys Bengal’s talent as a greyhound has been evident for many to see over recent years and it was demonstrated in his latest outing.
Race ten in Shelbourne Park on Saturday night saw the son of Pinpoint Maxi and Killeacle Tammy hold off an illustrious field in fine style with superb early speed.
Trained by Gerry Holian for the Buttsys Buckos Syndicate of Shannon, the distinctive looking brindle and white tracker shot from trap three and was soon in complete control. Deadly Samuri emerged from the pack in second but was never going to get to the leader. Despite the very wet conditions at that point in the evening, Buttsys Bengal galloped right to the line to score by four lengths in 28.90.
Fast times were the order of the Saturday night card in Limerick, the final greyhound to dip under the twenty-nine second barrier on the night was Grangeview Buck in race ten, the talking dogs A2 525. Owned by Gary Pepper of Feakle and trained by Stephen Murray of Sixmilebridge, Grangeview Buck broke smartly wearing the red jacket to take a narrow lead into the back straight with the race still all to play for.
However, Grangeview Buck is a strong runner and he extended his advantage down the back to two lengths before storming up the home straight to leave the result never in doubt. A convincing four length winner in the end, the time was 28.98.
Galway had just one night’s racing this weekend and on a night of torrential rain the twin features on Friday nights card the A2 tenth contest over 525 yards and the A2 twelfth over 575 yards.
As the traps rose for the tenth contest all six runners were away as one with Mollrose Prince and Crokers Light just about heading the charge as the opening bend loomed. Rounding the bend though the Siobhan Garraghy of Lahinch owned Cloneyogan Blaze slipped through to take command of the contest entering the back straight. Racing down the back Cloneyogan Blaze led Mollrose Prince by over a length with Mr Logan in third place and although Mollrose Prince closed to within half a length at the crown of the home bend Cloneyogan Blaze responded well off the home bend as he drew clear to defeat Mr Logan by two and a half lengths in 30.09.
Racing towards the opening bend in the A6 graded third contest Burnpark Rankin and Drombeg Mandy disputed the lead but they drifted with at the bend allowing Mackie Blackie through to lead along in the inner racing down the back. Racing towards the halfway mark the Pat Hogan of Ennis owned Aulton Ken eased through along the leaders inside to take command of the contest. Leaving the back straight the Seamus Fahy trained son of Kinloch Brae and Heathlawn Molly looked home and hosed but he was all out to see off Mackie Blackie’s renewed effort by a length and three parts in 30.25.
The double was completed in the S6 graded fifth contest when Aulton Zero led on the crown of the home bend as he saw off the challenge of his rivals headed by Brickhill Paulio by three lengths in 20.01. From traps Brickhill Paulio, Dynamic Squirt and Kilkeale Snow were all prominent with Brickhill Paulio just a fractional leader at the turn. Rounding the bend though the leader drifted off the fence and Aulton Zero needed no second invitation as the son of Zero Ten and Heathlawn Gold short through along the rails and kicked clear off the home bend to score in style.
