Continued drainage improvements are planned to be carried out at Brennan’s Cross this year.

Newly appointed senior executive engineer of the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett outlined the intention to for continued drainage improvements from Brennan’s Cross along the Knockalisheen Road to be carried out this year.

He was speaking in response to a motion from Cllr PJ Ryan (IND). The Cratloe representative had urged the MD to install a drain at the old army water reservoir on the Knockalisheen/Windy Gap road “to alleviate surface water flowing in the direction of Brennan’s Cross”.

Works had been carried out from Brennan’s Cross towards Meelick village in 2019, Mellett advised. “We will assess this request as part of these works and report back to Cllr Ryan on the matter,” he added.

Water is flowing from the Windy Gap side, Cllr Ryan stated. He recommended that the engineers take into account the direction in which the water is coming from. His proposal was backed by Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF).
