Six new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Co Clare, Department of Health officials have confirmed.

Just shy of 400 cases (396) have been reported to the Department of Health in the past 24 hours. Dublin (241), Cork (36), Donegal (19), Galway (12), Meath (11), Kildare (11), Monaghan (9), Louth (7), Clare (6), Offaly (6), Waterford (6) and Wicklow (5) are the named counties where cases have been reported. A further 27 cases are spread among 11 other counties.

Further information on the 396 cases has noted that 70 percent occurred in people under the age of 45, 58 were as a result of community transmission and 26 percent was due to close contact with a confirmed case or an outbreak.

No new deaths relating to the virus have been notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

Adding clarity on the 396 cases, Dr Ronan Glynn outlined that many of which were seeded in the last week. “This virus spreads from person to person. We now have a collective task across the country to break the chains of transmission and stop this virus from spreading further.

“Plan to see half the number of people this week that you saw last week. When you do meet, do so safely – keep your distance, wear a face covering if appropriate and wash your hands. Every individual action we take to interrupt the transmission of this disease keeps ourselves and our families safe,” the Acting Chief Medical Officer stated.
