Feakle’s championship aspirations have been dealt a blow with confirmation that one of their key men has been ruled out for the year.

Former Clare minor and U21 hurling panellist, Con Smyth will play no part in the remainder of Feakle’s 2020 Clare SHC bid.

In a freak accident, Smyth ruptured his achilles during the warm up ahead of their first round win over Whitegate at O’Garney Park in Sixmilebridge. As the team list had already been submitted, Smyth had to line out when the sliotar was thrown but was replaced within one minute with Eoin O’Connor entering the fray.

Within the past week, Con has underwent an operation to mend the injury and is now expected to be on the sidelines for more than one year.

It represents yet another injury headache for Feakle boss, Michael Guilfoyle. Captain Oisin Donnellan is said to be struggling with a hamstring injury ahead of their second round meeting with Clarecastle on Saturday while Fiachra Donnellan is ruled out with a long-term injury.
