One more person has died with a further 21 cases recorded across the Republic of Ireland while Co Clare is now four days without an increase in cases.

COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of 1,749 people in the Republic of Ireland following confirmation from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre that one more person has died.

Officials within the HPSC have confirmed 21 more people have tested positive for the virus with six cases de-notified. It means, 25,698 have received a positive diagnosis for Coronavirus.

No new cases have been recorded in Co Clare for the fourth day in succession. Latest figures for the county are from Tuesday (July 14th) and show that 369 persons have been diagnosed with the virus.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn is expecting an increase in cases next week. โ€œThe cases which we will report next week have already been seeded, however we have the power to limit the spread and impact of this disease beyond that; the way we do so is through following public health advice, avoiding high risk situations and encouraging our friends and family to do the sameโ€.

Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group gave an indication as to where the R number is presently at. โ€œOur best estimate of the R-number currently stands at 1.4 but it could be as high as 1.8. We have an opportunity now to maintain suppression of the virusโ€.
