Clare athletes had reason to be cheerful in the US over the weekend with key wins and milestones celebrated.

Quin’s Alex O’Neill celebrated her second win in a row on Thursday in the 800m. She was part of the Providence College women’s indoor track team that competed in Kingston, Rhode Island in a tri-meet comprising of Providence, Rhode Island College and Northeastern University.

A past pupil of Rice College, Alex led the 800m from the start and finished in first position in a time of 2:13:38 followed by her teammate Halle Atkinson.

Jo Keane impressed in the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship, on Friday night, in Lubbock, Texas. She was part of the winning DMR team, a race consisting of 1200m/400m/800m/1600m. The Mountaineers earned a first-place finish in the women’s distance medley relay with a time of 11:21.35 in what was a school-best DMR first-place finish for West Virginia University.

Prior to the DMR success, Jo competed in the second heat of the 800m finishing in third position and qualified for the final. However it was her win alongside Hayley Jackson,Tessa Constantine, and Ceili McCabe that saw them named as the college’s athletes of the week.

Clarecastle native Kevin Mulcaire had the best race of his Oklahoma State career finishing in sixth place in a time of 24:28 for the 8km at the meet day the OSU Winter Open with Isai Rodriquez first home in a time of 23.57 in what was the first Cross Country Spring Season race.
