Confirmation of 9 further deaths and 59 extra cases of COVID-19 has been issued by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre with one new case recorded in Co Clare.

Ireland’s death toll has risen to 1,651 following notification of 9 new deaths. The HPSC has de-notified three deaths. No detail has been provided on where in the country these 9 people were based.

59 new cases are known by health officials. It brings the total amount of confirmed cases in the Republic of Ireland to 24,929. Up to 85% of the individuals diagnosed have since recovered.

Clare has recorded its fourth new case in the space of one week. To date, 319 individuals have tested positive for the virus in the county. Clare accounts for 1.3% of the country’s total amount of cases.

Data from Thursday’s 24,870 cases has outlined that 3,279 have been hospitalised and 408 admitted to ICU. Healthcare workers are associated with 7,955 cases. Community transmission has dropped to 39% with travel abroad attributed to 2% of cases and close contact now responsible for 58% according to the HPSC.
