COCKTAILS are being shaken and cookies baked right across the world as the global alumni network of Shannon College of Hotel Management are raising funds to provide food for frontline staff and provide business for the decimated hospitality industry.

Alumni from Shannon College of Hotel Management in hotels across the globe are bringing it all back home by making their favourite cocktails and dishes and asking friends to donate to the campaign in response.

In just two weeks they have raised €2,116 that will go towards the #HospitalityFeedtheHeroes initiative, which is ensuring frontline staff get nutritious meals as they work long shifts fighting the pandemic.

The College has trained some of the top hoteliers in the world and is the only Irish third level institution with a 100% graduate employment rate since it started operations 69 years ago.

“It really started with our alumni in the UK, where we have staff in the likes of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, Savoy Hotel, The Ritz and many more world-famous hotels. They participated in the UK #Hospitality4Heroes campaign videoing themselves making cocktails and preparing dishes and nominated some Shannon College staff to take part and it just caught on from there,” Lecturer and Head of Graduate Affairs Tracy Hegarty said.

The campaign supports Irish frontline heroes whilst also supporting the hospitality industry, as they have linked up with #FeedTheHeroes who work with local Food suppliers to provide nourishing and essential meals to all frontline workers.

“It’s a really tough time for the industry here and many of them, particularly here in Ireland, are not working at the moment and, of course, worried about their futures but it didn’t stop them getting on board with this campaign,” Tracey added.
