Speed cameras were being put โout of businessโ in Lissycasey due to the slow pace at which motorists are travelling.
At the final meeting of the West Clare Municipal District before the introduction of COVID-19 restrictions, Cllr PJ Kelly (FF) called on the local authority to surface the parking area immediately west of Lissycasey Church.
He had observed that it had been frequently used as a traffic lay-by โfor slow moving trafficโ. Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) seconded the request.
Repair works will be carried out at the location by MD staff, senior executive officer, John OโMalley confirmed. The surfacing is to be completed in 2020.
โOn Mart days you naturally have tractors which slow down traffic,โ Cllr Kelly explained. He added, โWeโre putting the speed cameras out of business because the traffic is moving so slow. The first place to pull in is by the Church.
โRather than constructing new lay-bys, make use of what we have. They are low cost facilities if we use the existing onesโ. The Lissycasey representative admitted, โThere is no perfect system.
