Cusack Park was offered as a coronavirus testing facility, Clare GAA officials have confirmed.
Earlier this week, Clare GAA made contact with the HSE and offered that Cusack Park be utilised as a drive-thru testing facility to enable people in the county be tested for Covid-19.
The Clare Echo understands that the HSE have no plans to use Cusack Park at present but will monitor the situation and may utilise the County Grounds in the coming weeks if needed. An official of the Clare County Board stated, “During this time we have to encourage everyone to observe social distancing rules and for all our members to stay safe”.
Similarly, Tipperary GAA put forward Semple Stadium for a similar use and the venue was viewed by an official from the HSE. They confirmed the Thurles grounds would not be required at present but “it may be used in the near future,” a spokesperson outlined.
On St Patrick’s Day, it was announced that Croke Park would be turned into a Covid-19 testing facility with an average of eight cars attending every fifteen minutes over the course of seven days for twelve hours a week.
Elsewhere, Pairc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, Limerick’s LIT Gaelic Grounds and UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny are all being used as drive-by testing centres.
