Former Clare senior hurlers Diarmuid McMahon and Barry Nugent were among the winners at the winter series scramble at Dromoland.

The annual open series Winter scramble at Dromoland Castle golf club is once again, proving to be a very popular competition attracting big entries each week despite the recent inclement weather conditions.

Running every Sunday for the next seven weeks, the competition is for teams of four with weekly and overall prizes on offer. Last Sunday’s winners were Patrick Murnane (11), Barry Nugent (10), Diarmuid McMahon (11) and Brian Foudy (15) with a score of 58.3 nett.

Lahinch
With the championship courses closed at present after another very busy season, the weekly competitions at Lahinch are taking place on the Castle course. Saturday’s singles stableford event was won by Ronan Cooney (2) with 41 points from Donagh Fawl (19) with 40 points and Tom Collery (12) with 39 points.

In a similar competition on Sunday the winner was Terry Clancy (15) with 44 points from Robert Brannock (11) with 43 points

Kilrush
The weekly men’s singles competition at Kilrush last week was won by John McGrath (13) with 31 point from Noel Kilkenny (18) with 29 points and Matt Fitzpatrick (18) with 28 points.

Last week’s senior ladies scramble was won by M Clancy, A McMahon, J Lorrigan and L Maher with 42.25 from L Browne, A Hogan and M Hehir with 43.33.

In the senior men’s scramble the winners were Michael Ryan, Matt Fitzpatrick and Terry O’Hare with 70 from Finbarr McMahon, Pat Shannon (Cranny) and Murt Collins with 63 while third spot was filled by John McGrath, T.J. Lyons and Noel Enright with 60.5
