Kilrush’s Murt Collins received national recognition at the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards.
A member of the Tidy Towns committee in Kilrush, Murt was nominated by local retailer Paul Queally. His commitment to making the community a better place to live and work was acknowledged by the judges as he honoured with a Community Hero award.
At the awards ceremony, Murt along with other Community Heroes from across the country, received a commendation for their commitment to building thriving communities through their Tidy Towns work.
Collins was the last Progressive Democrat to ever contest an election in Clare, he ran in the 2007 General Election where he got 810 first preference votes.
Commenting on the Community Heroes awards, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu, said the Tidy Towns are “the greatest community-focused, sustainable initiative in Ireland, and it’s all made possible by the thousands of passionate volunteers like Murt who work tirelessly to make villages and towns across the country better places to work and live in”.
