Departing joint senior hurling manager, Gerry O’Connor has encouraged the Clare County Board to extend Donal Moloney’s tenure in charge.

The Clare Echo was to first to report O’Connor was stepping down from his role as joint manager. “I would like to confirm that I will not be considering another term with the Clare senior hurling management. I would like to thank everybody who has helped to afford me this opportunity over the past three years, that is the management, the players, the county board, the supporters, Club Clare, Pat O’Donnell, my employers and my family,” the Éire Óg clubman stated.

Having managed teams side by side with Donal Moloney for over a decade, Gerry felt the Scariff man should be kept in charge of the seniors for an additional year. “I wish Donal and the management team all the best in the future and I hope they will be asked to consider another term”.

Off the back of Clare’s third U21 All-Ireland title in a row, the Killanena native stepped down with Moloney continuing in the hotseat for a further two seasons. A repeat scenario has not yet been confirmed with discussions ongoing between Donal and the County Board.
