Ardnacrusha’s Richie Oakley has been appointed editor and chief content officer of The Sunday Business Post.

From January 2015 to June of this year, Oakley was editor of the Times Ireland edition. Prior to that, he held numerous positions with The Sunday Times and was previously motoring correspondent with The Sunday Tribune, which at the time was edited by Matt Cooper.

In mid-august, he will commence his new role at The Post which employs over one hundred personnel and was first launched in 1989. The newspaper has been without an official editor for nearly a year. Ian Kehoe stepped down last September and executive editor Tom Lyons was his successor. After Lyons’ departure in November, the job was filled by interim editor Emmet Oliver and later deputy editor Susan Mitchell.

Though born in Caherdavin, Richie and his family later moved to Ardnacrusha in South Clare. He went to secondary school in Crescent College before studying English and Philosophy at UCD, while there he began writing for The College Tribune.

Chief Executive of the Sunday Business Post, Colm O’Reilly commented of the appointment, “Richie is one of the outstanding media professionals working in Ireland today and he created and led a superb team of professionals in The Times Ireland. He joins a dynamic leadership team and a superb team of journalists in The Sunday Business Post and he will play a key role in placing the group at the heart of economic and political life in the country.”

Oakley said he was “delighted” with the news and is “looking forward to working with the team of excellent journalists”.
