Doireann Garrihy has been unveiled as the co-presenter of a new breakfast show airing on RTÉ 2FM alongside Eoghan McDermott.

The youngest of three sisters, Doireann is the daughter of Eugene and Clare, both of whom hail from the Banner County. The Garrihy sisters, Aoibhin, Ailbhe and Doireann teach speech and drama classes from Ennis and Castleknock.

Aoibhin who currently resides in Co Clare is a columnist with The Clare Echo and her ‘Love Clare’ section showcases hidden gems and the best things to do while in the county.

Doireann has recently started a podcast ‘The Laughs of Your Life’ which so far has featured Ian Dempsey, Deirdre O’Kane, Mario Rosenstock, PJ Gallagher, Ryan Tubridy, Stefanie Preissner and Baz Ashmawy. Prior to that she had been working as a fill-in presenter for Today FM and is the presenter of The Podge and Rodge show on RTÉ.

Current drivetime presenter Eoghan McDermott will join Garrihy on the new breakfast show as 2FM aims to “become more of a speech service”. Station boss, Dan Healy admitted the pairing will be “high-energy” focusing on the 15-34 age bracket as Today FM’s Ian Dempsey is judged to be stronger with the slightly older group. Breakfast Republic’s Bernard O’Shea will leave 2fm for projects on RTÉ Television, while Keith Walsh will move to the weekends.

Dancing with the Stars presenter, Jennifer Zamparelli will be flying solo from 9am to 12pm with her own show which plans to be a caller-led phone in programme.

Having left the station along with Nicky Byrne, Jenny Greene will return to front a new evening show that begins at 3pm daily. Prior to that, Tracey Clifford’s show airs from midday and will be music focussed.

Evening slots have yet to be finalised with station bosses believed to be eyeing up podcast as they widened their net of presenters.
