A trip to the Island
While the Aran Islands themselves belong to Galway, Inis Oirr is nearer to Clare and so I think itโs ok to include it in this weekโs Love Clare column. I canโt think of a better way to spend a day/week/month during the summer months for families of all ages. Take the boat from Doolin, bring a foam body board and enjoy endless fun on the white sandy beach or rent a bike and visit the shipwreck or lighthouse, go fishing off the fishermanโs pier or take a pony and trap ride. Most importantly, make memories in what can only be described as holy Godโs pocket!
A visit to Bunratty
Not just for tourists, Bunratty Folk Park is the perfect way to spend an interactive day of learning as the scene is set for you. Explore the castle and village as you travel back in time, sparking the little imagination of your little ones. For something a little different, why not try a Bunratty kayak with Nevsail and admire views of the majestic castle from the river while enjoying a fun family outdoor activity in the process.
A land based Whale Watch
On Saturday 25th August join The Irish Whale and Dolphin group for a land based , all Ireland, Whale Watch at Loop Head as you look for and observe some of the 25 species of cetaceans (porpoises, dolphins and whales) in their natural environment providing IWDG researchers with a unique snapshot of whale and dolphin activity around the Irish coast on the day. A fun and informative activity for all the family.
Foraging in the Burren
Why not get back to the grass roots…with Wild Kitchen. Take an educational walk in one of natureโs most stunning landscapes and develop the sustainable skills of plant identification, seasonal foraging and cooking techniques that will benefit the whole family and encourage a healthier lifestyle.
A picnic on the beach
Whether itโs the rolling sand dunes of Fanore, the hustle and bustle of Lahinch prom or the tranquility of Clahane, thereโs nothing like a picnic by the sea. Savour the last of those summer sandy sandwiches while you can! Clare has some of the best beaches in Ireland so why not make the most of them.
