€66,000 will be provided for three Clare capital projects under the first measure of funding in the new Clár funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Kilmaley Meitheal will receive €18,000 for the resurfacing and redesigning of the existing Church carpark, new tarmac, lining and upgrading of existing footpaths and school safety measures at the Church and Day Centre junction.

Quilty has been allocated €17,100 for the construction of a pedestrian crossing and footpaths in the village village, while St Patrick’s National School and O’Callaghans Mills Community Council’s joint application for €31,500 worth of funding for the upgrading of the footpath from the school to the village has also been sanctioned.

Fine Gael TD, Pat Breen welcomed the announcement. “I am delighted that the three projects prioritised by Clare County Council under the first measure of Clár funding have been approved by my colleague Minister Michael Ring”.

He stated that Clár was “part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development. Funding will be provided under three measures: Support for Schools/Community Safety Measures; Play Areas; and First Response Support Measure”. Breen added, “A decision on the second measure of the €5million Clár funding is expected soon.”
