LONG-SERVING Clare hurler Brendan Bugler has today confirmed that he is retiring from inter-county hurling.

It was reported yesterday that the St Flannan’s teacher was ready to step down, and the 2013 All-Ireland winner today announced in a statement, “I wish to confirm that I am retiring from inter-county hurling with Clare.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped me on my journey along the way. I would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank my family and friends, teammates and management teams in Whitegate, Scariff Community College, University of Limerick and Clare. Thank you. Brendan.”

The 32-year-old half back’s announcement comes after limited involvement in last season’s campaign under the joint management team of Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor.

Clare GAA wished Whitegate man Brendan the best of luck in his retirement in a tweet, calling him a “truly great player and a gentleman”.
