A BATHING prohibition has been introduced at Ballyalla bathing area due to the presence of an algal bloom.
Clare County Council introduced the prohibition today, Friday, September 11, on the advice of the HSE.
The restriction will remain in place until further notice.
The council said blue-green algae can produce harmful toxins which can be harmful to animals that drink the water, while skin rashes have occurred in humans following contact with affected water.
Clare County Council will continue to monitor water quality at Ballyalla and provide further updates as results become available.
