KILMURRY IBRICKANE will be without midfielder Diarmuid King for the remainder of the year.
King sustained a knee injury in the opening twenty minutes of Kilmurry Ibrickane’s first round win over St Breckans at the end of July.
Subsequent scans have confirmed that the 2020 Clare SFC winner will be out of action for the West Clare side for the rest of this year. Previous injury setbacks saw King undergo an operation in December 2021 but he did manage to return for the side then managed by James Murrihy as they reached the county semi-finals, exiting on penalties to Ennistymon.
Speaking to The Clare Echo, Kilmurry Ibrickane manager, Enda Coughlan confirmed, “Unfortunately Diarmuid is gone for the year, he has a lot of damage done to the knee and he is gone for the year”.
Panel importance was stressed by Enda, defender Ciaran Morrissey was also ruled out for round two against Lissycasey.
Enda stated, “We have a panel of thirty one, I said to them at the start of the year that it is horses for courses, some lads came on today that didn’t come on the last day, some lads that came on the last day didn’t come on today, the next day there will be more used and I need to have all players that I can trust to go on the field, it’s not just a token run, I believe if I put a lad on the field that he will do a job for us and that is ultimately what you need because all the other teams like Lissycasey are bringing on serious players, everyone is bringing them on, all the teams are bringing on big players and that is what you need, you need a panel now because there is a lot of running in that middle eight, I wouldn’t like to be playing myself these days”.
