AVENUE UTD have had many high-profile coaches assisting club teams during their 43 year history but a Manchester Utd great answered the call to assist with their U13s this week.
Wes Brown a winner of five Premier League titles and two Champions League medals during his fifteen year career with Manchester Utd was in Bunratty on Tuesday evening as part of the Avenue Utd U13 management.
Manchester Utd are in Kildare this week taking part in a training camp at Carton House where they’ve been met with enthusiasm from Irish football fans.
Brown who made 232 appearances for Manchester Utd was not in Carton House but instead Bunratty for the CSSL U13 meeting between Avenue Utd and Bunratty Cratloe.
Ashley Crowe, a native of Manchester now living in Ennis and part of the Avenue Utd U13 management is an old friend of the former England defender and managed to draft him for their 6-0 win on Tuesday evening. “Wes was hosting football camps in Galway and Limerick and in between managed to spend some time with the kids from Avenue Utd and Bunratty Cratloe,” Ashley told The Clare Echo.
It was a close opening half before Avenue pulled away to leave Bunratty with the three points. “The highlight of the evening was certainly Wes’ appearance, he posed for photographs, gave autographs and spent time with everyone to hopefully make it a memorable evening for the boys,” Ashley added.
Founded on April 12th 1983 in Mickey Kerin’s Bar in Lifford, Avenue Utd won’t yet be adding the ex Manchester Utd and Sunderland defender to their full-time coaching ranks.
