CLARE’S U20 hurlers will begin their Munster championship campaign at home to Waterford on Wednesday.
O’Garney Park in Sixmilebridge is the setting as Clare kick off their championship bid versus the Déise. They will be back in The Bridge a fortnight later to face Limerick in the second round before away trips beckon them to Tipperary and Cork by the end of April.
This U20 side is the outfit that won All-Ireland and Munster titles at minor level so there is an expectation that they deliver at the U20 grade.
Terence Fahy is back at the helm for a fifth season. With the talent that has passed through the U20 ranks in recent campaigns there is now a growing appetite that silverware be obtained following Munster final defeats in 2023 and 2025.
Since the competition changed from U21 to U20, Clare have yet to win the Munster championship. The all-conquering U21 side that won a third Munster title in a row back in 2014 are the last Clare team to win provincial honours at the grade.
Mark Sheedy, Ronan Kilroy and Jamie Moylan are the U20 panelists also forming part of Brian Lohan’s senior squad.
Fahy is joined on his management team once again by Tomás Kelly with fellow Whitegate man Andrew Fahey involved. Conor Ryan has departed the set-up from last season.
