SHANNON TOWN Utd claimed a big three points to move to mid-table in the Maloney Hardware Premier Division.

A second league win of the season for Shannon Town has been enough to propel them to fifth spot in the Premier Division, where they are tied with Ennis Dons. They face the Dons this Sunday in what is the tie of the weekend.

Fair Green’s fifth defeat in seven league outings in a first season in the top flight as them at risk of an immediate return to the First Division. They are joint second from the bottom alongside Lifford AFC.

Midfielder Etnik Aliu put Fair Green in front on sixty six minutes but Richie O’Grady’s were unable to kick on and instead conceded two goals in the final twenty one minutes of Sunday morning’s tie to sustain another blow.

Full-back Cody Waller and captain Charlie Morrison bagged the all-important goals for Shannon Town to give David Hogan’s side a timely lift ahead of a vital fixture verus the Dons this weekend.

Both sides will admit they haven’t come close to hitting their potential this season. Fair Green have struggled with creating scoring chances and absenteeism was high from key figures within their squad for this game, one they would have aspired to win.

Consistency remains a drawback for Shannon Town but they can put themselves in a very strong position if they can record a successive victory against Ennis opponents this weekend. The Dons having gone a month without a competitive fixture may help their cause.

Shannon Town Utd: Kyle McInerney; Cody Waller, Aaron Shinners, Steven Carroll, Brian Monaghan; Cian Johnson, Charlie Morrison, Luke Keating, Kieran Hackett, Eoghan Gough, Seán Aylmer.

Subs: James Fahy for Carroll (55), Jamie Doyle for Monaghan (60), Colin Curran for Gough (60), Jakub Setkowicz for Hackett (75).

Fairgreen Celtic: Alan Reidy; Lee Clohessy, Dario Fernandes, Hubert Kantecki, Shane Brown, Stephen Ogundare, Etnik Aliu, Johnson Mununkum, Bruce Piggot, Dean Coughlan, William Bello.

Referee: Michael Rock
