BANNER LADIES had “no answer” for a superior Kilmihil in last Sunday’s senior Clare LGFA final.

Manager JJ O’Dea has steered Banner Ladies to win fourteen senior titles but they came up short on a score of 1-15 1-8 to Kilmihil on Sunday.

O’Dea told The Clare Echo, “Kilmihil were the better team today, being honest. We had a great start and we had a goal chance or two which they blocked. Look they had a few goal chances also but Kilmihil took over afer that. The way they moved the ball and attacked up the field, their tackling was excellent. We had no answer to them, Dervla Higgins was excellent throughout.”

Kilfenora native JJ stressed, “the better team won today”. He observed, “we couldn’t breakdown their defence because our girls were being fouled by three players and that’s not ladies football to me. Look they (Kilmihil) were better on the day but we got no chance to get back into the game. Look Kilmihill deserved this one”.

O’Dea has no fears for the future of the Banner club. “The Banner is not a one hit wonder, the club is there since 1974. We have gone from strength to strength and we will keep going. We will be back. We will have our ups and downs and today wasn’t our day but we will be back. We have a strong underage policy and players are coming through, they are coming through the whole time. We bring two or three through to the senior side every year”.
