HOLLYWOOD great Steve Carrell swapped the office for the sea when he was in Co Clare on Monday during his Irish holiday.

Actor and comedian Carrell who turned sixty three in the past fortnight set sail from Doolin as he visited the Aran Islands this week.

Life Magazine once named Steve as โ€œAmericaโ€™s funniest manโ€ while he earned a ย 2010 Primetime Emmy nomination and 2006 Golden Globe honours for his portrayal as Michael Scott in the US version of The Office which he also worked as a producer, executive producer, writer and director of, it is regarded as one of the greatest television shows of al time.

Born in Massachusetts, the youngest of four brothers, Steve first came to prominence in the entertainment sphere as a cast member on The Dana Carvey Show in 1996 and as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart from 1999 to 2005.

He went on to star in several comedy films, including Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) and its 2013 sequel, as well as Bruce Almighty (2003), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Evan Almighty (2007), Date Night (2010), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), and The Way, Way Back (2013). He also voice acted in Over the Hedge (2006), Horton Hears a Who! (2008) and the Despicable Me franchise (2010โ€“present).

A Golden Globe winner, an eleven-time Emmy Award nominee and an Academy Award nominee for Best Actor in 2014, Carrell added to his list of achievements this week when sailing from North Clare.

While travelling to Inis Oรญrr, Steve was on board with Doolin Ferry and joined Connor Oโ€™Brien, son of Doolin Ferry owner Liam in the wheelhouse to assist with steering the passengers to the Aran Islands as a new anchorman took helm of the thriving North Clare business.

โ€œHollywood royalty joined us on board,โ€ a spokesperson for Doolin Ferry outlined as they remarked Steve is โ€œthe latest in a long line of celebrities to sail with usโ€.
