AUGUST is half way gone and this month can fly by, but we should still do our best to enjoy it and keep busy in the garden.

With a lot of special occasions coming up in households, itโ€™s lovely to keep the pots or container topped up with colour. Whether itโ€™s Debs time in the house or a special birthday, we can keep our pots and basket looking well this time of year.

Yes, itโ€™s been a challenge with the weather going from one extreme to the next, but patience, as we learn from gardening, can reap lovely rewards. That being said, I have been doing a mix and match with colour and shrubs, so my baskets are not as full as usual. I have added lovely trailing ivy and put in some bizzy Lizzy to boost the fullness and colour, which came up trumps.

The tall pots with flowers are gone a bit leggy, so I have added some grass carex ever gold, giving a lovely overflow colour, and added a Cordyline Charlie boy for height, then topping up with some purple petunia that are glowing with flowers at the moment. If you need to add a boost to the summer flowers, we have lovely bits that can help.

Itโ€™s been a busy week here with keeping up with the watering and soaking some plants. Try to keep the watering to early morning or late evening at home if possible. We are cleaning plants like lupin and nepeta as flowers are finished flowering. They will hopefully have another lovely spread in a few weeks.

The roses are lovely as they come into flower, but also need a bit of cleaning and feed to help boost the flowers.

Tall perennials that look good now are Rudbeckia and Lobelia starship and verbena bonariensis, showing lovely colour and are long flowering into the autumn. Alstroemeria, or Peruvian lily as they are commonly known, are one of the most fantastic perennials. They come in tall or low variety, suit all gardens, and will spread each year.

Whether itโ€™s a small garden or a container garden, itโ€™s worth it to spend some time there and enjoy the beauty you have created. Itโ€™s just a joy to enjoy at this time of year.

Have a gorgeous week gardening.
