AN ADVISORY notice not to swim is now in place at White Strand in Doonbeg.
Two Clare beaches have recorded elevated levels of bacteria in the water over the past twenty four hours. The red flag is flying at Lahinch with a swimming ban in place while an advisory notice not to swim at White Strand in Doonbeg has been introduced.
Officials in the HSE advised Clare County Council to put the notice in place. The restriction has been introduced after the results of routine bathing water samples showed elevated levels of bacteria.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Clare County gave the exact same line as was issued for Lahinch a day previous for likely causes. “Run-off from the catchment after exceptionally heavy rainfall is a likely cause of the elevated levels of bacteria in the water. In accordance with An Taisce’s Blue Flag programme, the Blue Flag at this bathing area will be removed until such time as the water quality improves”.
