DOONBEG, Ennistymon and Kildysart recorded wins in the opening round of the O’Gorman Cup.

The race for the 2025 O’Gorman cup, an adult football tournament promoted by Doonbeg GAA in memory of their long time official, the late John O’Gorman, got under way at the weekend.

Title holders Doonbeg overcame Naomh Eoin on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-5 on Saturday afternoon while, on the same afternoon, Ennistymon proved too strong for St Joseph’s Miltown, winning on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-12.

The remaining first round game took place on Monday evening at Shannon where Kildysart overcame the home side on a final scoreline of 2-10 to 1-9.

In this, the twentieth season of the competition, round 2 will take place on this Saturday when Ennistymon, Kildysart and Wolfe Tones will enjoy home advantage against Doonbeg, Naomh Eoin and St Joseph’s Miltown respectively.

A condition of the competition is that clubs play without current inter county senior players. This year’s tournament is being played under the new rules which are being trialed in the Allianz National Football League.
