TWO gold medals, one singles and one doubles and five sliver, (1 singles and 2 sets of doubles) have come to Clre this week from the 2024 World handball championships being hosted in Leinster venues in this, the Centenary year of GAA handball.

Clooney’s Sean Considine won the boys under 15 singles and his club mate Sean Coughlan of Clooney was also a winner in the doubles

Tuangraney’s Diarmaid Nash lost in a tie break in the final of the Men’s Senior Open. Sean Considine also brought home silver in doubles while Eoin Shanahan from Kilkishen. Mike Baker and Shane Hayes won silver in the Men’s O40B doubles.

In addition to this there were 6 gold Plate medals for Mike Baker in the men’s O45B Singles, Luke Madden in 15 and U, Anna Madden in 13 and U, Aine Lenihan with Alannah Coggeran in 19 and U Doubles and Daniel Madden with Iarla Kelleher in 13 and U Doubles.

Chloe Philpott in the ladies under 17 A singles, Cathal Noonan and Daniel Madden in the 13 and U singles contsted plate finals but, unfortunately, lost out as did Niall Malone with Tadgh Carroll in the Men’s Open Doubles and Darren O’Neill in the Men’s C.

Clare had 50 players taking part, 26 adults and 24 Juveniles with a further 5, Noah Healy and Ava Considine of Clarecastle, with Ella Kirby, Conall Early and Jack Kirby of Newmarket-on-Fergus in the U11 fun event

Munster 60×30:

Clare will have representation in the Munster U12 and 13 60×30 competition.

In the boys singles Ethan Collins of Kilkishen will play while the Clooney/Quin pair of Sean O’Keeffe and Ben Fahy will play the U12 doubles with Anna Brookes of Clooney-Quin playing the U12 girls singles.
Games will take place in Ballina, Tipperary on Saturday.

Munster Inter-Club:

A number of Clare clubs will be chasing Munster success in the inter club competitions which take place over the coming weekend.

Competing will be Kilkishen, (Henry McGrath, Mike Baker, Kevin O’Callaghan, Sean Murphy and Jacob Loughnan), Newmarket-on-Fergus (Glenn Murray, Darragh Burke, Cian Fawl, John Lynch and Darren Culinan), Tuamgraney (Cathal McKenna, Tiarnan Slattery, Fionn Slattery and Jamie Howard), Tuamgraney (Paddy Fitzgerald, Seanie Doyle, Ciaran Malone, Conor Downes) and Clooney/Quin (Sean Coughlan, Pat Nolan, David Considine, Matthew Coughlan).
