*Mayor of the Ennis MD, Cllr Pat Daly (FF) topped the poll in Ennis. 

SIXTEEN seats have been filled on Clare County Council following the first day of counting for the local elections.

In the Ennis Municipal District, Fianna Fáil have elected four councillors while Sinn Féin have added a new councillor in the guise of Tommy Guilfoyle (SF) and Fine Gael retained two of their seats.

For the third election in a row, the same five councillors have been returned in the Killaloe Municipal District.

Five years on from losing his seat in the Ennistymon LEA, Bill Slattery (FG) has topped the poll. The Greens no longer have representation on the local authority following the elimination of Cllr Liam Grant (GP). Slattery topped the poll and had 2,244 first preferences. He was followed by Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG), Cllr Shane Talty (FF) and Cllr Joe Killeen (FF).

Sitting Mayor of the Ennis MD, Cllr Pat Daly (FF) was the poll-topper, he was elected on the first count with 1,832 which was above the quota of 1,473. Cllr Mary Howard (FG) was elected on the second count. On the eighth count in the Ennis MD, Cllr Paul Murphy (FG), Antoinette Baker Bashua (FF), Tommy Guilfoyle (SF), Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) and Cllr Tom O’Callaghan (FF) were all elected, Guilfoyle, Colleran Molloy and O’Callaghan without reaching the quota.

Once again, Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) delivered a poll-topping performance in the Killaloe MD, he amassed 2,819 first preferences and passed the quota of 1,735. He will be joined by Cllr Pat Hayes (FF), Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF), Cllr Tony O’Brien (FF) and Cllr Pat Burke (FG).
