There was disappointment for both Diarmaid Nash and Caitriona Millane in the All-Ireland senior singles handball championships last weekend.

In her maiden year in the competition Caitriona Millane lost out to Caitriona Casey who will now play Roscommonโ€™s Fiona Tully in the final.

In the senior menโ€™s quarter final on Friday, Diarmaid Nash beat last yearโ€™s intermediate champion, Gavin Coyle to earn a semi-final date against Paul Brady who is in top form at the minute and he proved too strong for the Tuamgraney clubman. Brady will play Robbie McCarthy in the final after McCarthy defeated Corkโ€™s David Walsh in the other semi-final.

A number of Clare ladies will be in championship action this week when Leah Minogue will face Cuileann Burke (Mayo) on Saturday, Chloe Philpott will play Alannah Coggeran (Roscommon) on Friday evening in Abbeyknockmoy while Amber Nolan will play Farrah Ryan(Carlow) on SaturdaySaturday.

Munster Championships:

Meanwhile there was mixed luck for Clare players in the Munster championships last week.

In the Master B section Shane Walsh, Tuamgraney defeated Hugh Carolan, Cork.

In an all Clare clash in the ladies junior quarrter final Aine Lenihan, Kilkishen received a walkover from Aishling Fitzgerald, Tuamgraney.

In the menโ€™s junior B semi-final, Glenn Murray from Newmarket-on-Fergus lost out to David Reilly from Tipperary. In another Clare v Tipperary contest in this grade, Sean Coughlan from Clooney was victorious over Colin Ryan.

There was disappointment for Tuamgraneyโ€™s Seamus Ryan in the masters B final when he lost out to Tom McDonagh from Cork.

Defeat was also the lot for Mike Baker from Kilkishen who went down to Christy McGrath fromTipperary n the silver masters B final.

In the O-35 final Darren Oโ€™Neill, Clooney defeated Eamonn Buggy, Cork.

Meanwhile in the junior ladies competition there were two all Clare contests, Chloe Philpott, Kilkishen defeated Amber Nolan, Tuamgraney while Leah Minogue,Tuamgraney accounted for Aine Lenihan, Kilkishen.

U14 Boys Cup:

In the Clare under 14 bys cup final, Cathal Ryan (Clooney) overcame Brian Minogue (Tuamgraney).

The remaining blitzes for boys and girls U10 and U11 took place across the weekend with over 100 children travelling to Tuamgraney, Tulla, Clooney, Kilkishen, Newmarket, Toonagh, Clarecastle.

Club News:

Clooney Quin had the finals of their parish league on Friday night last. They had competitive games over two weeks with over 80 children from 10-17 years taking part playing over 70 games. The Gearoid Oโ€™Neill cup for the winning team was presented by Rebecca Oโ€™Neill to representatives of the winning team, Donnacha Cantwell and Mikie Hassett. The teams consist of singles and doubles mixed and
both boys and girls play.
