PUBLIC LIGHTING in North Clare has been brought under the spotlight by an elected representative in the locality.

Citing health and safety, Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) appealed for the addition of public lighting on the entrance and exit to Toonvaghera Church at a meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.

Acting senior executive engineer in the roads and transporation department of Clare County Council, Michael McNamara advised, “Any public lighting to be installed on single carriageway national roads is required to be assessed under Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) “Design of Road Lighting for the National Road Network” and shall require a Departure from standards”.

In a separate proposal, Cllr Killeen asked that an assessment be undertaken by Clare County Council and any necessary remediation work be completed on the cracked pavement sections of the Inagh to Miltown Malbay Road.

Paudie Barry, executive engineer with the Council confirmed that emergency maintenance at three points on the R460 Inagh to Miltown Road had been completed by the local authority.
