ENNIS’ RAYMOND O’MAHONY has been elected as the new secretary of the Clare Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA).

After an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held last week to try appoint a successor to outgoing secretary, Monica Callinan of Kilmihil failed to fill the vacancy, a renewed appeal was issued to clubs as no one was willing to step forward as secretary or assistant secretary.

O’Mahony who is currently the Chairperson of the ladies football club in Éire Óg after consideration agreed to put his name forward for the post of secretary. A senior official at St Francis Credit Union in Ennis, Raymond has been an active supporter of the county intermediate ladies football side in recent seasons travelling across the country to support the flagship side.

A new assistant secretary has also been put in place. Liscannor’s Aishling Torpey takes up the mantle and it is expected that both she and O’Mahony will share some of the workload to ease the expectations on what is required of the secretary.

Chairman of Clare LGFA, Seán Lenihan said they were “delighted to have now filled all vacant positions” on the Executive. “The new County Board are already planning for the year ahead and would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas,” the St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield clubman stated.

Callinan remains on the Executive as injury fund co-ordinator, she is now relieved of her duties as secretary having been in the role for five years, working alongside Lenihan and his predecessors David O’Brien and the late Kieran Harvey.

St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield’s Theresa Roseingrave was at the EGM appointed Assistant PRO where she will assist Caoimhe McMahon of St Joseph’s Miltown who was elected at the AGM in November.
