FOLLOWING the addition of new advance warning signs, chevron signs and delineator posts at Annagooladory Bridge in Fossabeg in spring, no further works are planned but a county councillor has argued that more measures are needed.

In March, Clare County Council installed new advance warning signs, chevron signs and delineator posts at the bridge on the Flagmount to Scariff road.

Further signage and measures โ€œto slow trafficโ€ were requested by Cllr Pat Hayes (FF) at a recent sitting of the Killaloe Municipal District but acting senior executive engineer, Derek Troy confirmed that no new proposals are planned. โ€œIt is expected the measures implemented will significantly improve the situation,โ€ he said while admitting that consideration to road markings could be given.

Efforts to date were acknowledged by Cllr Hayes who insisted more work was needed. โ€œThere have been a lot of accidents at this bridge over the years, there has been numerous times Iโ€™ve passed and seen the back of a car hanging out from the ditchโ€. He added, โ€œI think we need a bit more, it is a long stretch but people need further signage to alert them, weโ€™re lucky there has been no fatality. There is a higher risk if people werenโ€™t pre-warnedโ€.

Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) agreed that additional measures would help. โ€œYou are coming down a hill which is not helping the situation. What has been done is a help to what was there. Further signage would be helpful,โ€ he said.
