SHANNON AIRPORT has announced a new service to Marseille.

In a further boost to the Mid-West region, Ryanair have confirmed it will be operating a new route from Shannon to the port city of Marseille in the South of France from Wednesday May 4th.

It will be the first scheduled Ryanair service to Marseille from Shannon and will operate twice weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday departing at 16:00 and 08:45 respectively.

Three weeks ago, Ryanair announced a new route from Shannon to Barcelona Girona, that is to take flight at the end of March. The airline now has 67 weekly flights to 22 destinations as part of its 2022 summer schedule at Shannon.

Connectivity to France “is another win for the region,” CEO of Shannon Group, Mary Considine stated. “A service to Marseille from Shannon is fantastic for our passengers, bringing them directly to the southern coast of France near Toulon, St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco and more”.

She added, “We know that restoring connectivity is important to our airport customers and that is why we have been working hard with our airline partners to create exciting holiday opportunities, like this one. The addition of Marseille means that Shannon Airport will now connect our passengers to 22 destinations with Ryanair.”

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness maintained that the addition of the route to France’s second largest city would serve as a “perfect destination for anyone seeking an authentic French city escape”.

Sun-drenched Marseille boasts beautiful waterfront scenery, historical architecture, a modern city, and great food. The city is also central to the renowned Provence wine region and is brimming with museums.

Welcoming the new service, Dr Loïc Guyon, Honorary Consul of France for the Mid-West region said: “The return of an air link between Shannon Airport and France, is excellent news for the Midwest and Connacht regions both in terms of tourism and in terms of the business opportunities it will notably generate with the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.”
