With upwards on 700 members Woodstock golf club continues to be extremely busy.

The popular club on the outskirts of Ennis benefited from a huge influx of new members last year and the indications are that there will be another big influx of new members this year.

โ€œApplications are coming in steadily,โ€ explained manager Anne Marie Russell this week.

Like all clubs there was a big drop off in income as a result of the Covid lockdown with a huge loss in the number of societies and golf classics at the club.

Thankfully, with the lifting of restrictions many regular societies have returned to hold their annual events at the club and Anne Marie can be contacted regarding dates and arrangements.

At the recent annual general meeting of the club Ollie McNamara was elected to the post of president succeeding Matt Power. Kieran Drummy has succeeded Liam Oโ€™Connor as captain while Mary McNamara has been appointed as the lady captain in succession to Fiona Landy. Sean Howard is the 2022 seniorโ€™s captain taking over from Brian Logue.

Tony Neville receiving the Club Championship Cup from Captain 2020/21 Liam O Connor.

The club participates in the various Golf Ireland inter club menโ€™s and ladies competitions and their honours lists includes two All-Ireland Pierce Purcell titles, a Munster mixed foursomes title as well as having had success in the J.B. Carr and Michael Cashman seniors competitions.

The club has a thriving junior section and two members have been particularly successful in recent times. Aine Donegan is currently on a golf scholarship in the U.S. while Aideen Walsh is this week taking part in an amateur event in Spain. Both have helped Lahinch to success in the ladies Irish senior cup.

โ€œAll in the club are extremely proud of the achievements of both Aine and Aideen and we wish them continued successโ€, club manager Anne Marie Russell said this week.

The club provides a variety of competitions for members from singles to team events while also hosting regular open day events.

Founded in 1993 Woodstock is situated on the outskirts of Ennis. Designed by Arthur Spring it features a tough opening hole, a loop of holes (6-8) around a lake that can spoil a card early, and it provides six excellent finishing holes. Holes six, seven and eight are known as Woodstock’s โ€˜Amen Corner’. All the indications are that 2022 will be another busy year for the club.
