Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan (GP) has confirmed his Department is heading up a review on the operations of Shannon Group and that he believes the body is best placed to continue its operations.

On Wednesday, Clare TD Violet-Anne Wynne (SF) received confirmation from the Department of Transport that its officials would be heading up the review and not their counterparts in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

Deputy Wynne claimed that confusion on the matter was sparked by an online video by Deputy Cathal Crowe (FF). “Minister Ryan confirmed that his Department is in fact heading up the review into the Shannon Group and that he is of the opinion that the Shannon Group is best placed to continue the operation at Shannon”.

She told The Clare Echo that the absence of a timeline for the review is a worry. “We have been waiting over 9 weeks for this review to conclude and we must ensure that it is completed, and the recommendation implemented to provide reassurance to staff in all three sections of the Shannon Group company, Airport, Heritage and Properties.

“I have made it quite clear that Shannon Airport is vital to the prosperity of the region and I am pleased that the Minister has acknowledged this in his reply to me,” the Kilrush woman added.
