Five trees in Shannon will be examined following a request that they be removed.

Citing safety interests, Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF) called on the Shannon Municipal District to remove five trees on Corrib Drive in front of the grounds of Shannon Town Utd AFC and behind the machinery shed.

As part of the Shannon Municipal District’s end of year tree works programme, the matter will be examined, senior executive engineer Aidan O’Rourke confirmed.

Noting that the pathway surrounding the grounds is used by walkers “every morning,” Cllr O’Gorman flagged, “there is a bigger problem around trees in Shannon”.

Support for the motion was voiced by Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) with Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND) seconding the proposal. Flynn joshed that any contribution from O’Gorman’s GMA towards Shannon would be welcomed with “open arms”.
