A theft event in Kilrush and ‘vishing’ fraud incident reported by Garda Eimear McDonagh.

Kilrush Gardaí are appealing for the public’s assistance regarding theft of power tools from a van on Crawford Street in Kilrush between Friday evening (5th) and Saturday morning (6th). Items solen include a Yellow Dewalt Kango hammer, Yellow DeWalt Consaw, DeWalt batteries and chargers, Ground services scanner, and a Hilti SDS Hammer Drill.

Anyone that may have been in the area and seen any suspicious activity are asked to contact Gardaí in Kilrush on (065) 908 0550.

An Garda Síochána is also currently investigating a ‘vishing’ fraud incident.

The injured party reported to Gardaí that she received a call from someone that started ringing from a financial institution.

The caller asked her to delete her banking App from her phone and asked her to confirm her private details.

Unfortunately, money was subsequently transferred from the account.

The injured party acted quickly, notifying the financial institution and reported the matter to Gardaí.

In terms of Crime Prevention Advice, An Garda Síochána is aware that many of the public have received gifts over the Christmas or may have brought themselves phones, laptops, gardening equipment or jewellery in the January sales.

“We hope that these items are never stolen but if they are we want to help you to report the crime and recover their property”.

“To assist Gardaí in returning property to the owner, we would ask that they document their property. This can be done on the Garda Síochána App or it can be written onto the Property Register Booklet”.

“An Garda Síochána property app is available to download on your phone. Once you have the app downloaded and created your account you can add property. The app allows you to photograph the property. In the event that any of your property is stolen you can select the object and press the report button in the App”.

“The second option is the Property Register Booklet. This can be downloaded from the Garda Síochána website or it can be requested by emailing ennis.community@garda.ie”.

“Owners are asked to record a description of the item, the make and model, serial number, the cost and date of purchase and value”.
