Tony Killeen and Mike Taylor with Páraic McMahon.

IT’S GAME on so far as the General Election is concerned with a record number of nineteen candidates in the field.

As it stands, political pundits are predicting positive outcomes for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in Co Clare.

On the latest episode of The Electoral Chair, Páraic McMahon is joined by Tony Killeen (FF), a Clare TD from 1992 to 2011 and a former Minister for Defence and Mike Taylor (FG), a Fine Gael candidate during the 2019 local elections and a former parliamentary assistant to Clare TD, Violet Anne Wynne, currently a member of FG.

Our setting in Hotel Woodstock ironically enough is the Doonbeg Suite coinciding with the success of the West Clare Hotelier, Donald Trump in the US Presidential Election.

On the clár:

    • Political comebacks
    • Timmy Dooley’s (FF) very fancied return to the Dáil
    • What unsuccessful local election candidates can do to compete in a General Election
    • Hilary Tonge (598) Amanda Major (396), Michael Loughrey (127), Matthew Moroney (860), Kevin Hassett (448) – they received a combined first preference of 2,429 which is less than the entire 2,819 polled by Joe Cooney. Comparing their figure with 2020 General Election in Clare, Senator Martin Conway (FG) eliminated on the sixth count finished up with 2,424 having polled 2,285. What can any of the five do to boost their vote and have a chance?
    • What can do the European campaigns of Eddie Punch and Michael Leahy show ahead of the General Election.
    • Experiences of working with Deputy Violet Anne Wynne (IND).
    • Sinn Féin trying to capture a vote through Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF).
    • How it all changed in twelve hours for Fine Gael.
    • Who will be hurt by the additions of Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) and Tom Nolan (FG) into the field?
    • Cathal Crowe TD (FF) had momentum before 2020, he doesn’t now.
