GORT OWNED On the Latt recorded a tenth career success in Galway.
Thursday nightโs card at Galway Greyhound Stadium was headlined by the A3 graded seventh contest over 525 yards. From the traps Hinomite was best away but as they raced towards the opening bend the striped jacketed On The Latt displayed good pace to lead on the wide outside taking the bend. Turning down the back On The Latt led Hinomite by two lengths as Noelleโs Glenlo and Brickhill Tamika gave chase two lengths further adrift.
Racing towards the penultimate corner though the Gerry OโDonoghue of Gort owned On The Latt was out in splendid isolation and the son of Broadstrand Bono and Brickhill Sharon powered clear all the way to the line to defeat Hollywell Mave by seven lengths at the line in 29.02 and record his tenth career success in tremendous style.
In the early strides of the S8 graded sprint contest there was three different leaders with Croaghill Magic and Tinas Fancy both enjoying a few strides at the head of affairs before the Maria Browne of Cree owned Burnpark Cashout took command as the opening bend loomed. Despite maintaining a middle route between the two bends the son of Ballymac Cashout and Burnpark Blossom led by two lengths turning for home and although Croaghill Magic closed all the way to the line he was still half a length adrift of the winner in 19.64.
As the traps rose for the A6 graded contest Melbourne Flyer was best away ahead of Crokers Queenie and Lissatouk Pearl but as they closed on the opening bend the red jacketed Lissatouk Pearl powered through along the inner to turn in front. Racing down the back Lissatouk Pearl(Ballymac Casout-Lissatouk Dolly) quickly opened up a five lengths advantage over French Fearless with Cragbrien Hero in third place.
Approaching the home bend though the leaders stride began to shorten as French Fearless began to close and although the Seamus McMahon of Cooraclare owned Lissatouk Pearl was running on fumes close home she prevailed by a head from French Fearless in 29.42.
Race 6 was an A5 graded 550 yards contest and on the long run towards the opening bend Bumblebee Diva on the wide outside and Threebagsofmeat along the inner disputed the lead just ahead of Balroebuck Ash. Racing between the opening two bends Bumblebee Diva held a narrow advantage but as they raced towards the halfway mark the Johnny Burke and Gerry Maloney of Ennis owned Threebagsofmeat moved through along the inner to take over in front and lead by a length at the third bend. Tracking well again between the final two bends as her main rival maintained a wide berth Threebagsofmeat(Ballyhimikin Jet-Grangeview Nifty) scored by three lengths at the line in 30.80.
Saturdayโs feature contest was the On Faya Kennels Galway Oaks generously sponsored by Peter Mullrooney. The finals of the Stephen Molloy Memorial A1 sponsored by the Molloy Family and The Crafty Kennels Novice 525 sponsored by the Divilly family added further class to an excellent nights racing.
In the early strides of the Stephen Molloy A1 Final decider Derrymoyle Bono was away well towards the inner with Rinnwood Leo and Unanimous Ayla also close up as they hit the opening bend were Stick With Me was forced wide on the track and badly impeded. Racing down the back Rinnwood Leo struck the front and led from Derrymoyle Bono as their raced towards the third bend with Stick With Me making a remarkable recovery to creep ever closer in following his troubled run early doors.
Beginning the swing for the judge Rinnwood Leo swung a little wide and this was enough to see the Mullins-Curtin Syndicate of Gort owned Stick With Me a son of Grangeview Ten and that brilliant stayer Dana Point storm through to assume command and triumph going away by two lengths over Rinnwood Leo in 29.02.
As the runners went to traps for this very tight looking Crafty Kennells Novice 525 Final the general consensus was that early pace would be the key and as the traps rose both Brickhill Lewis and Crafty Elegatto both timed their exit to perfection with the former holding a narrow advantage racing towards the opening bend. At the bend Brickhill Lewis took a length out of his rival and turning down the back the front tow had the counties between them. Racing along the back Clare native John Collins and Mark Patterson owned Brickhill Lewis gradually increased his advantage to two lengths over Crafty Elegatto and try as the latter did Brickhill Lewis(Dromana Bucko-Brickhill Sharon) was in command as he extended his advantage over Crafty Elegatto to three lengths at the line with Toureen Rose a litter comrade of the winner back in third place in a time of 28.81.
The opening contest of the night was an A3 graded 525 yards contest in which all bar the striped jacketed Airfield Katie were away on terms with Hollywell Rhino leading the charge towards the opening bend. Approaching the bend Claudegreengrass swept through along the rails to take over in front entering the back straight. Racing along the back the Ger Manley of Cratloe owned Confused Kiely made gradual progress on the outside and sweeping to the front taking the third bend. Quickly asserting the son of Magical Bale and Lavan Fairy drew clear to score stylishly by two lengths from Hollywell Rhino and Airfield Katie in 29.02.
