COORACLARE’s OWN SPICE galloped to a tasty success in the Saturday night feature at Galway Greyhound Stadium.

The concluding A0 550 yards contest was the Saturday night feature at Galway Greyhound Stadium and as the runners began the long run towards the opening bend Standing Proud showed the best to lead up from Own Spice with Noelles Prosecco in third place along the inner as they turned down the back. Racing along the back the Thomas O’Doherty of Cooraclare owned Own Spice went to the front and the John Browne of Ballyea trained runner quickly set sail for home. From the third bend Noelles Prosecco went in pursuit but Own Spice(Skywalker Puma-Coolavanny Spice was home by two and a half lengths in 29.87.

Race 3 was an A5 graded contest which developed into a match from the third bend as Derra Peske & Insidethehuddle left their rivals toiling but in the early stages the pair were towards the rears Darla The Queen led the way to Merciful Debbie. Racing towards the halfway mark though Insidethehuddle made rapid progress out wide to lead approaching the third bend but he was tracked all the time by the Stephen Murray of Sixmilebridge trained Derra Peske. Rounding the home bend the leader moved wide and this allowed the Rachel Murray of Sixmilebridge owned Derra Peske (Ballymac Eske-Playmistyforme) to slip through and win going away by a length and a half in 29.51.

In race 2 on Friday nights card, all six runners came away almost as one for this S6 graded contest with One Survivor first to break rank to lead on the run towards the opening bend . As the leader hit the bend the striped jacketed Burnpark Ronaldo loomed up on the wide outside before sweeping to the front on the crown of the turn. In the straight, the Alanna and Michael Browne of Cree owned son of Watchman and Burnpark Grainne drew right away to defeat the dead-heaters Johnny Ger Gar and One Survivor by six lengths in 19.40.

This Novice 525 yards contest looked a decent contest in paper and so it proved with the Noel Hehir of Inagh owned Gougane Jet making all the running to see off the staying on Cloonturk Bruno by a decreasing length at the line in 28.97. The winner was away smartly from the one box and despite moving to the centre of the track on the run up led by three lengths from the long striding Cloonturk Bruno. Racing down the back Gougane Jet increased his advantage to over five lengths but from halfway Cloonturk Bruno began to close but Gougane Jet(Droopys Jet-Paper Doll) was always getting to the line inn front .

Last Monday evening at Limerick Greyhound Stadium proved fruitful for three Clare kennels, Seamus McMahon from Cooraclare recorded a first career win with Lissatouk Boris, this strapping son of Dorortas Woo Hoo and Lissatouk Lady landed the spoils in a A7 contest in 29.57. There was success for Jumping John owned by Carrigaholt’s Joe Keane who notched his first career win in a time of 30.55 for an A 6 contest. The Duggan brothers from Quin, Seamus and Aiden have a real consistent performer in Two Pints, a son of Paddys Magic and Miles girl he recorded a career best when winning his third race in 29.09, he is under the capable hands of Myles Cummins and Breda Casey.

There was racing last Thursday night at Limerick Greyhound Stadium and Ryans Lemon proved to be the only Clare winner, a son of Droopys Cain and Lemon Abigail and owned by the Parteen based Shanakyle Syndicate spearheaded by Joe Collins, he notched career win number three in a personal best of 29.09.
