Sustainability of towns and villages must be treated as “high priority” when it comes to the preparatory work on 22 strategic projects in the West Clare Municipal District.
West Clare Greenway
An appointment of technical advisors to work on the planning and detailed design of a 20km section of the West Clare Greenway between Kilrush and Kilkee is expected to be announced in March while councillors have stressed the need to connect to towns and villages to maximise its chance of success.
An expenditure of €131m is included in Clare County Council’s revenue budget which puts a priority on local SMEs, housing, town enhancement plans and rural regeneration while future capital projects such as the West Clare Greenway, Blake’s Corner and the Killaloe Bypass are identified for progression.
A lack of progress on a greenway section from Ennis to Lahinch has been criticised by a county councillor with others stressing the need for the public to see the West Clare Greenway is progressing.
