There was also five first rounds heats of the Ann Cheevers Memorial A5 Stake down for decision. In heat three, Ticking Along on the wide outside was way smartly with French Deluxe and Blaze Bill also prominent as they rounded the opening bend but as they entered the back straight the Tony Brigdale of Ennis owned Blaze Bill moved up on the leaders outside to join issue before taking command approaching the penultimate bend. From the third bend Blaze Bill drew further clear with every stride as the son of Rising Brandy & Orange Princess scored by six lengths from No Shift and Ticking Along in 29.48.

Peteles Countess was away in her usual smart style in heat two leading Fast Fit Drop by over length rounding the opening bend with Orbsen Jet in third place on the wide outside. Racing down the back Fast Fit Drop gradually reduced the deficit before the John Quinn of Gort owned son of Doratos Wildcat & Fast Fit Maeve took command of the contest at the third bend. Off the home bend the lead was a length and a half which Fast Fit Drop maintained to the line to defeat Peteles Countess and Orbsen Jet in 29.54.

It was another super weekend for the afore mentioned John Quinn as his super star Fast Fit Paddy justified favouritism in the opening heat of the 600 yds Stake at Shelbourne Park also on Saturday night last. On this occasion the Declan McDonagh of Liscannor trained hound had to show all his pace and determination to recover from early traffic. Fast Fit Paddy recovered well, however, turning second before setting his sights on the leader. Almost three lengths adrift as they entered the back straight, Fast Fit Paddy closed right up on the leader to the third turn only to check his stride as Young Bud cut the bend. That could have been a decisive blow but Fast Fit Paddy had no intention of giving up andhe powered home to finally master Young Bud for a length verdict in 32.50.

The opening race on last Thursday’s nights Limerick card last night went to Speedie Syd owned by Padraic Fanning from Ennis, this was a first career success for this strapping son of Droopys Sydney and Urban Time and the winning time was 29.43.

Breda Casey and Myles Cummins from Newmarket-on-Fergus were in the winner’s enclosure with Snuggie Bunty a son of Paddys Magic and Miles Girl recorded a first career success in 29.84, the previous Thursday on St. Patricks Day a litter sister Snuuggie Rosie recorded a fourth career win in 29.44.
