A proposed spend of close to €130,000 on surface dressing by Clare County Council has been labelled “painful” by one elected member of the local authority.

Inclusion of the L-7052 in Shrawickeen in Clonlara linking off the L-7050 in the 2021 road programme for restoration and improvement was requested by Cllr Michael Begley (IND) and seconded by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF).

Senior executive engineer in the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett outlined, “We have included 2000m of the L-7050 on the Schedule of Municipal District Works for this year, the L-7052 is a Cul-de-Sac off this road. We have been unable to include the L-7052 for this year. It will be considered for inclusion in 2022”.

Speaking at the March meeting of the Shannon MD, Cllr Begley stated, “It is painful to see we have to spend €128k surface dressing absolutely beautiful smooth roads, it is a pity it has to be done because it is a very smooth road to drive”.
