SECOND CLASS students from Scoil Chríost Rí in Ennis and their teachers were the special guests for the launch of a Clare County Library story trail at John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road, Ennis on Monday.

A Storybook Trail is a fun, educational activity to be enjoyed by all the family and provides an ideal opportunity to build children’s interest in reading while enjoying healthy outdoor walks. The library’s choice for the story trail which serves to launch and promote the annual Summer Stars reading adventure for children is a picture book written by Emer O’Neill, illustrated by Debby Rahmalia and published in Ireland by Gill Books.

Summer Stars is the public library national summer reading programme for children that runs until the end of August. The programme is non-competitive and every child who reads even one book or ebook is regarded as having completed the programme.

Children can sign up for Summer Stars at any of the fifteen library branches in Clare and on registration they will get a Summer Stars reading card followed by other Summer Stars rewards to encourage continued reading during school summer holidays. Children who take part in Summer Stars 2022 will automatically enter a draw to win an exciting free reading event for their school in the Autumn. One lucky school in Clare will be gifted a visit from best-selling children’s writer Judi Curtin, compliments of Clare County Library.
