SCHOOLS in West Clare have closed as the county is placed under a Status Orange weather warning.
Storm Bram is the second named storm of the season. Gale force southerly winds will hit coastal areas leading to the potential of flooding in low-lying zones during high tide, wave overtopping, hazardous travel, displaced debris, disruption to outdoor events and possible power outages.
Co Clare is under a Status Orange weather warning from 10am to 6pm on Tuesday.
Met Éireann’s Gerry Murphy has said that Red level winds could be recorded in Clare.
Shannon Ferry Group have confirmed there will be no sailings from 11am until 3pm “due to the weather wind warning”. Sailings will resume at 3pm from Killimer.
As a precautionary measure, schools across West Clare have closed including Annagh NS, Burrane NS, Doonbeg NS, Kilmurry McMahon NS, Knockerra NS, Miltown Malbay NS, Scoil Reált na Mara in Kilkee and St Senan’s NS Kilrush.
Secondary schools that have shut their doors for the day include, Kilkee Community College, Kilrush Community School, St Joseph’s Spanish Point, St Michael’s Community College in Kilmihil. Ennistymon Community School in North Clare has also closed.
Childcare provider, Cairde Beag in Kilrush is also closed.
