ST JOSEPHS, Tulla are through to the Dr Harty cup (Munster Colleges senior A hurling championship) semi-final thanks to a hard-earned but merited win over Blackwater Community school from Lismore in Waterford this Wednesday afternoon.

In a game played on a heavy pitch at Kilmallock the sides were level on five occasions before the East Clare school put in a strong finish to score four unanswered points and claim victory.
In the semi-final, scheduled for Saturday week, January 17, they will face either St Flannans College, Ennis or Our Lady’s Templemore who play their quarter final on Friday.
A contribution of 0-10 from midfielder Matthew Corbett (Clooney-Quin) was key to the Tulla school’s victory. He was unerring from placed balls which resulted in 0-9 of his tally.

Full forward James O’Donnell’s (Broadford) ability to win aerial possession led to a number of scores and he finished with 0-4 to his name while Clooney-Quin’s Jerrry O’Connor landed 0-3 with the remaining point coming from Aodán O’Driscoll (Broadford).
Others to play key roles in an all-round solid team performance were centre back Ryan Hayes (Tulla) and midfielder Michael Vaughan from Broadford, the captain of the side.
A win for St Flannans College, Ennis over Our Lady’s Templemore on Friday will lead to an all-Clare semi-final in the race for this prestigious title.
The other semi-final will be an all Tipperary affair. Competition favourites Nenagh CBS scored a 3-19 to 2-14 win over Midleton CBS at Bansha this Wednesday afternoon while Thurles CBS had three points (2-13 to 0-16) to spare over De La Salle from Waterford in their quarter final tie.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Scariff Community college in their Munster colleges senior B championship (Corn Thomaís Mhic Choilm) quarter final when they went down to Scoil Pol, Kilfinnane on a scoreline of 5-16 to 1-21.
