WHEN St Cronan’s Athletics Club saw that local Meals on Wheels services were dealing with a huge increase in demand, they stepped up to the mark. Literally.

The club pledged to run 500km to help raise funds for Meals on Wheels operated by Obair in Newmarket-on-Fergus, whose services have risen from 60 meals per day to 200 meals due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

“Last week St. Cronan’s Athletics Club held a fundraiser where all athletes, parents and coaches both young and old were called to action.

“Our aim was for athletes, parents and coaches to get active and run a combined total of 500km as a club. The idea was for participants to run/walk between 2-10km over 7 days. Once completed participants posted a picture of their Fitbit or mobile phone device on our Facebook page,” said club spokesperson Grainne Lynch.

St Cronan’s smashed their target with a combined total of 1000km ran and over €1,700 raised for South Clare Meals on Wheels. What an achievement!
